Sample QSPM · Tala Provisions, Inc.
The Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix scores how attractive each strategy is against every factor from the EFE and IFE. Tala Provisions compares two strategies from TOWS: office plans and café pickup for the online subscription, and two new mall cafés. Score a cell and see the ranking update. How it's scored

- Getting early access is free, and waitlist members get 20% off their first payment. The code comes by email with your invite.
- Is using this cheating?
- In your own project, you choose every factor, weight, rating and strategy. Strama does the arithmetic and shows how each total was reached. Check your program's policy on tools.
- My professor gave us a template.
- Strama uses the standard textbook methods, and each matrix names its method on screen. On a paid plan, you can export to Word, PowerPoint and Excel to fit your template.
- Where do my edits go?
- They stay in this browser. Getting early access sends your email, one optional answer about where you are, how you found us and whether you tried a sample, never your edits.
- Will I have to retype it?
- No. Your edits are kept in this browser, and they come with you when you save, once you have an account.
How the QSPM is scored
- Bring in two to six strategies from TOWS.
- List every external factor with its EFE weight and every internal factor with its IFE weight. Each group sums to 1.000, so the weights total 2.000. They are never rescaled.
- For each factor and strategy, give an attractiveness score (AS) from 1 (not attractive) to 4 (highly attractive). Enter NA if the factor doesn't affect the choice.
- Multiply weight by AS to get the total attractiveness score (TAS). NA counts as 0. Add each strategy's TAS. The highest sum ranks first.
Sum of TAS = Σ (weight × AS), per strategy. A cell left unscored blocks the ranking.
Use NA only when a factor truly doesn't bear on the choice. A cell you clear also counts as NA, and the matrix shows how many NA and blank cells each strategy has.
Worked example: Tala Provisions
ST-01 ranks first with 6.25, ahead of ST-02 at 5.25. The online plan scores higher on the factors Tala weights most, fresh roasting, subscribers and online ordering, and it needs no new stores. The mall cafés score better on store reach and awareness, but run straight into the roastery's capacity limit and Tala's thin margins.

That is the decision the earlier matrices set up: the IE, SPACE and Grand Strategy readings all allowed product development, and the QSPM shows it beats market development for Tala right now.
Try adding ST-03, the bean-contract strategy, from TOWS. It draws on different factors, mainly import duty and the peso, and the ranking may change. A QSPM only ranks the strategies you put in it.
Where it fits
The QSPM is the last of the ten. Its weights come from the EFE and IFE, its strategies from TOWS, and its shortlist is shaped by SPACE, BCG, IE and Grand Strategy. If the EFE or IFE weights change, the QSPM is marked for review.
Common mistakes
- Scoring some strategies on a factor and marking it NA for others. If a factor matters to one strategy, score it for all of them. The QSPM warns when a row is mixed.
- Changing the weights. QSPM weights are the EFE and IFE weights, unchanged.
- Comparing strategies that don't compete. Score real alternatives, the choices you can't make at the same time.
FAQs
Why do the weights add up to 2.000?
The external and internal pools each sum to 1.000, and the QSPM keeps both as they are.
What happens if two strategies tie?
They share a rank, and your recommendation has to say why you chose one.
How many strategies should a QSPM compare?
Two to six in Strama. Most capstones compare two or three.
